Angry Man Eavesdropping, 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a man in a hallway eavesdropping outside a beauty's private quarters, scowling angrily as he ties his red floral obi around his waist. Inside, a young woman kneels beside a kettle atop a hibachi, a dish in hand, smiling up at the courtesan Shiraito. At right, a beauty wearing a black hood and kimono sits atop a bed, a sly smile on her face. A swallow in flight and cherry blossoms decorate the tall folding screen around the bed, and lacquer boxes sit atop a shelf at upper right with sliding panels below featuring wisteria blossoms. Wonderful detail in the setting and furnishings.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 19 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - Good detail. Backed with somewhat stiff paper. A few creases, slight curling.
