Fifty-four Chapters of the False Genji - Charming scene from Kunisada II's series based on the 1828 novel "A False Murasaki's Country Genji," a parody of the famous "Tale of Genji." The series illustrates the adventures of Mitsuuji, the Country Genji, and his encounters with the upper class. These beautiful images feature elegant kimono fabrics and accessories, richly colored and drawn with fine line work. Each print has a decorative fan inset with verse at the top and figures below, and a decorative green border featuring Genji symbols. Nicely detailed with a faint embossed pattern of seashells and waves on the background. Some prints include deluxe publishing techniques such as burnishing or additional embossing. A handsome Edo era series.
