Elegant Courtesan Kakemono

Comments - Attractive kakemono or vertical diptych of an elegant courtesan, dressed in a striking black kimono patterned with golden clouds and wavy red bands over the shoulders and feathery chrysanthemum blossoms near the hem, bordered with a design of butterflies against a green background. Her magnificent brown obi features two long-tailed birds perched on the branches of a flowering cherry tree. Her hair is swept back into a sleek bun, adorned with decorative floral hairpins and combs. The Boston Museum of Fine Art has this image in its collection. A handsome Edo era beauty print, beautifully drawn and composed, with wonderful detail and color.

Image Size - 28 1/4" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with color and excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. A couple losses at edge, a few small wormholes, repaired. Toning and wrinkling, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
