Yoshitoshi's Thirty-two Aspects of Women - Yoshitoshi's finest series of bijin-ga, or pictures of beautiful women, Thirty-two Aspects of Women features illustrations of beauties in a lighthearted reference to the thirty-two notable features of Buddha. The women depicted come from all social classes, representing beauties from the late 18th century through Yoshitoshi's own time. Each design captures a woman in a scene from daily life, realistically and sensitively portrayed as individuals rather than idealized figures.

Strolling: the appearance of an upper-class wife of the Meiji era, No. 32 - Lovely portrait of an up-to-date, upper-class wife enjoying a stroll through an iris garden. She is dressed in the latest western fashions, with a bustled dress, large bow tie, and straw hat trimmed with feathers and flowers. The rosy plum of her gown harmonizes beautifully with the gorgeous purple and white iris blossoms, the veining of the flowers delicately embossed. This design proved one of the most popular of the series with the Japanese Meiji audience, and continues to delight viewers today with the exotic mix of Western and Japanese tradition. A beautiful print.
