Steam Train at Takanawa Seashore, Tokyo

Comments - Fantastic view of a train on the Takanawa Steam Railway in Tokyo, a puff of gray smoke trailing from the steam engine as it chugs along. Men in Western dress sit or stand on the forward end of each car. The railroad track curves around an embankment at left, the bridge above crowded with travelers. The street continues on to the right, lined with shops and a teahouse hung with paper lanterns. A great illustration of the rapid modernization taking place in Japan during the Meiji era.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. Vertical centerfold in center panel. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
