Red Lion Dancer

Dances by Yamakawa Shuho - In 1936, Yamakawa Shuho designed a series of ten woodblock prints depicting traditional Japanese dances. These handsome images feature single performers in the midst of a dance, sometimes accompanied by props, set against plain backgrounds. Yamakawa Shuho is best known for his beautiful shin-hanga portraits of beauties, so his dancer series represents an interesting departure from his usual subject. A rarely seen shin-hanga series.
