The Great Battle of Anegawa, 1865

Comments - Dramatic illustration of the Battle of Anegawa between the forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu, and the Azai and Asakura clans. In the center, the samurai Endo Naotsune, a retainer of the Azai renowned for his bravery, stands valiantly with his spear in his outstretched hand, bleeding from wounds to his head and body as he leaps on one foot, grasping the spear of an enemy with his other hand. Troops at left fire a volley of shots which streak across the night sky leaving brilliant red trails. The ground is littered with arrows and abandoned weapons, along with two severed heads. A fantastic, if rather gory, depiction of a brave warrior fighting to the bitter end. An outstanding image and a terrific choice for a samurai enthusiast.
