Cherry Blossoms at Maruyama Park, 1934

Comments - Handsome shin-hanga scene of visitors viewing cherry blossoms at night in Maruyama Park, crowding around a large tree in the center covered with mauve flowers. Beautiful handling of light and shade, with a warm yellow light suffusing the area and a halo of white light around the tall spotlight at left. The figures are shown in silhouette in shades of gray and black, reflected in the water of the pond along with the cherry blossoms and the red orange light from a hanging fire basket. A handsome design of this favorite annual activity.
